Kishu Binchotan Charcoal
is made of Ubamegashi (academic name: Quercus phillyraeoides).
Trees of Ubamegashi inhabits in Southwest of Japan, where the prefecture Wakayama is located. In Wakayama, Kishu Binchotan charcoal is traditionally produced since late 1600’s. Kishu is the former name of the region Wakayama and the name of Kishu Binchotan is the indication of high qualified purifying charcoal.
Kishu Binchotan Charcoal is categorised in white charcoal which is heated over 1000 degree in the kiln, whereas black charcoal up to 700 degree. White charcoal is extremely hard like steel and its surface has countless number of pores. These pores absorb chlorine and dart in water.

HOW TO USE

Before use

Boil Kishu Binshotan Charcoal for 10 minute to remove dust. Boiling for 10 minute is required every 10 days to clean pores to renew its purifying effect. Alternatively you can estimate this timing by observing the water quality. Mild water falls into the glass really smoothly.

Purifying water
Put 1 Kishu Binchotan Charcoal into 1l water and leave over night. It absorbs chlorine and any darts, thus water becomes milder and more tasty.

Cooking rice
Put 1 Kishu Binchotan Charcoal on the top of rice and cook normally. Rice becomes shiny and more tasty. Aſter each use, rinse charcoal and dry quickly preferably under the sun light.

*The effect of Kishu Binchotan Charcoal lasts about 3 months. Aſter that, you can break them in pieces using hammers etc. and use for gardening. The pores on surface control the moisture in the soil.
