MONPE

Monpe is used be a sort of female version of Hakama which has been worn by men over Kimono. The usage of Monpe varied depending on the region, but it has been later developed more or less as work trousers worn by both women and men.

The young collective called Unagi no Nedoko based in Kyushu, has given Monpe a new value using the special cotton fabrics woven with the vintage weaving machines in their region. Thanks to this diligent time consuming work process, this fabric gives similar touch as handwoven fabrics.

The design is much simplified compared to the original Monpe, but thanks to the well considered details such as knee patch and a front pocket, it can be good alternation of jeans.

I've been working with Unagi no Nedoko last 6 years and this trousers have been making my customers happy, however, there was only a size issue as it can happens sometimes with Japanese clothes. Now they finally opened a bigger sizes LL in grey and navy. So if you gave up this Monpe trousers in the past because of the size, please come and try this LL.

Besides new size, there are two new colours, earthy brown and earthy charcoal black, that would fit well in coming cold seasons.

Moreover there is one wider model called 'Farmers Monpe' which is suitable for people who prefer more relaxing fit. This comes in earthy charcoal black.

Monpe is unisex and can be worn both at home and outside - it is very useful basic trousers that you can wear very often.

Looking forward to your visit.

Kind regards,

Ena
